About the role:
Join a nationwide health promotion campaign to discourage Aboriginal people across the Albury Wodonga region from using any tobacco or vaping products.
This role involves delivering comprehensive and culturally appropriate smoking cessation support services and programs in the Albury Wodonga region.
You will undertake induction and other training specifically provided for the Federal Tackling Smoking program, helping Indigenous Australians and the broader Closing the Gap Partnership.
You will also be required to commit to a program of ongoing learning and development leading towards a qualification at Certificate III level or higher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement culturally appropriate health promotion activities such as community forums, school visits, pop-up stalls, and supporting the creation of smoke-free homes and workplaces
- Share information about smoking cessation to increase community understanding of the dangers of smoking, the benefits of cessation, and the benefits of smoke-free environments
- Evaluate programs and workshop successes that encourage and promote smoking prevention, cessation, and awareness of the harms of smoking
- Develop networks in local Aboriginal communities to build community support for health promotion activities and ensure activities are tailored to the needs of Aboriginal people and communities
- Organise health promotion and community events to support anti-smoking and social marketing prevention campaigns (e.g., World No Tobacco Day, NAIDOC, other public events) Collect and report data to assist in the evaluation of the TIS program.
