Apply to Chief Executive Officer
Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS)
Identified Aboriginal Position
This is a rare opportunity to take the reins of an established Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation at a significant point in its history.
After 19 years of leadership, AWAHS's long-serving CEO has chosen to step down following the opening of the organisation's new $6 million Wodonga Health Centre — a major milestone in the growth and development of AWAHS.
With strong foundations in place, Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) is now seeking an outstanding Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter.
The incoming CEO will have the opportunity to build on an impressive legacy while bringing their own vision and leadership to AWAHS's future growth, sustainability and impact.
AWAHS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation providing primary health care and broader health and wellbeing services to Aboriginal people across Albury Wodonga and surrounding communities.
Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Chair, the CEO will have overall responsibility for the leadership, performance, sustainability, growth and reputation of AWAHS.
This is an opportunity to lead an established Aboriginal community-controlled organisation while helping shape its future. The Board is seeking a CEO who can combine a strong commitment to Aboriginal community control and self-determination with contemporary executive leadership, sound governance and commercial and financial capability.
The opportunity
The incoming CEO will work closely with the Board to translate strategy into action and position AWAHS for long-term sustainability and community benefit.
A significant focus will be strengthening the organisation's executive and management capability, including establishing an effective Deputy CEO and Tier 2 senior management structure. This will enable greater responsibility for day-to-day operations to sit at the appropriate management level and allow the CEO to maintain a strong focus on strategy, growth, partnerships and organisational development.
The CEO will also lead opportunities to strengthen and diversify AWAHS's financial position, develop sustainable services and business models, build government and strategic partnerships, develop the workforce and ensure high standards of governance, quality, accreditation and accountability.
Technology, data, automation and the appropriate use of artificial intelligence will also form part of AWAHS's future, with the CEO expected to lead a considered digital transformation agenda.
About you
We are looking for an experienced senior leader who can operate confidently at Board, community, government and organisational levels.
You will bring demonstrated executive leadership capability and ideally experience across a number of areas including:
You will understand that community benefit and commercial sustainability are complementary responsibilities. You must be capable of protecting AWAHS's purpose and cultural integrity while building a strong, sustainable organisation for the future.
This is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position. Proof of Aboriginality is a requirement of the position.
This is more than an operational CEO appointment. It is an opportunity to work with the Board, community and AWAHS team to build on an established organisation and help determine what the next generation of AWAHS looks like.
The successful CEO will inherit an organisation with a clear community purpose and will have the mandate to strengthen its leadership structure, develop new opportunities, build sustainable revenue streams and partnerships, embrace appropriate innovation and position AWAHS for continued growth and long-term community benefit.
A competitive executive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
